WHAT I DID FOR MY SUMMER VACATION

Or an essay in 5 parts--Now with PICTURES:

Vacation is wonderful.  We just returned home from a week away and I am determined to take a vacation every year.  Our last planned vacation  in 2006 ended after 3 days of driving when we heard from home that our house had flooded.  That put a bad taste in our mouths for vacation, as 2 years prior we got the same phone call at the end of our vacation!

So, braving the possibility of torrential rains on our home turf, we headed north to New England.  We had a good reason to visit there.  Our daughter, Rebecca, now a college graduate, is currently living up north.  Plus, our home education studies of American History would really come alive with a visit to Plimouth Plantation and Boston.

Some of the best things about vacation for me are leaving behind all the “paperwork” of life.  Those insurance phone calls to make, camp forms to fill out, emails to catch up on etc.  Because I never seem to get to those things very frequently, and because they are vastly time consuming, they seem always to hang over my head.  But not so while sitting on the beach on Cape Cod and listening to the sounds of water and gulls.  Time away allows me to refocus and reenergize.  I love to learn and see new things and take the time to enjoy my family.  Over the next few days I hope to post some thoughts and share some pictures about our week away.  I hope  a peek into our week encourages others to take a minute and get away--whether by taking a long walk or taking a long vacation!
